     What have you learned about yourself and the media?

A.

       I have learned that the media impacts many peoples lives tremendously.  One way it impacts us is by television.   Many people tend to sit in front of the T.V. for hours at a time.  As an effect, many companies will pay a lot of money to have their products shown or advertised on the screen.  An example is on American Idol, the judges drink out of coca cola cups.  This is a way of discretely advertising the companies product.  Another way that we are influenced is by clothing.  Usually, at the age of twelve, girls and boys feel that they must be in the latest fashion to be liked by their friends.  I know that I'm effected by the media when it comes to clothes, and I definately want to keep up witht hte latest trends.  Most of the companies will advertise and target the young teenagers.  Many companies put their name all over their products, so people will shop at their stores.  On most of the Hollister shirts, they write their name in huge print that covers the entire front part of the shirt.  A third example is billboards.  Luckily, people that live in a more rural area, like Vermont, are not influenced by billboards.  I learned that on long stretches of roads in the middle of no where, you will see many billboards advertising big companies.  While you're driving, and the kids are in the backseat and bored, they will be apt to read the signs.  No matter where you are or what your doing, I have learned that the media will always be around you.

    Are you free from the media?

A.

    No one is completely free from the media.  We live in a world where you cannot escape the powerful hold of the media.  One of the major media influences on your life is your friends.   When you are talking to them, you might notice their shoes have a big sideways E on them.  It is obvious that they are wearing Etnies skateboard shoes.  Without meanign to, your friend could be walking media.

    How can you increase yiour freedom from media control.

A.

    There are many ways we can become free from the media.
