Media Literacy:

~Teaching you about advertising

Persuasive Techniques:

Big Lie: Persuading through dishonesty. This ad says that Pantene Pro V will make your hair 35% thicker but just like every other hair product that claims it can make your hair some odd % thicker it probably won't.

Maybe: Persuading with promising but "hedgy" language- "It could be you." Just because it says it could be you doesn't mean that it will be you who wins the lottery.

Humor: persuading through appeals to the funny bone. In this ad for Timotei there is a lion that has supposedly used Timotei and now his hair is great. This is funny because it would never happen and looks really strange.

Simple Solutions: Persuading by offering a simple solution to either manufactured or more complex problem. In this ad the problem is the flue, and the solution is Vicks.  "Feel better faster." If you use Vicks you'll feel better faster than when not using any treatment.

Hyperbole: Persuading by making exaggerated claims, "The most amazing film of the year." This statement makes the ad more fun and big like this movie is the best movie.
